Dental specialists complete two to six extra years of training after dental school and usually work on referral from a general dentist, although most accept patients who call directly. Orthodontists straighten teeth with braces and clear aligners; endodontists handle root canals; periodontists treat gum disease and place implants; oral and maxillofacial surgeons extract wisdom teeth, place implants and do jaw surgery, often under IV sedation; prosthodontists rebuild smiles with crowns, bridges and dentures; denture centers focus on full and partial dentures, relines and repairs. Sedation and hospital dentists serve anxious patients and people with special needs, while TMJ and sleep-apnea dentists make oral appliances for jaw pain and snoring.

Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in Pittsburgh peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Like most people I've never been a fan of anything dental related, and I've been putting off getting my wisdom teeth out. I was recommended to Dr. Smiga, and I can't stress enough how amazing everything and everyone was. Office staff is a 10/10 and make you feel comfortable even over the phone. Everything went smoothly and honestly perfectly with my surgery. No swelling, no bruising, no pain! I'm looking forward to healing quickly and I'd absolutely recommend this location over and over again!

The Pittsburgh Oral Surgery is the place to book your appointment for any oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Eric Smiga and his highly trained professional crew did an amazing job freeing me from my wisdom teeth. Dr. Smiga’s personality radiates assurance and encouragement. He is a top notch surgeon. My procedure was swift and easy, and the recovery time is very short. I highly recommend Pittsburgh Oral Surgery for your needs.

Everyone was very kind. Explained the procedure well. Dr. Smiga was confident and very skilled (barely felt the numbing injections). I was so pleased that my tooth extraction was quick and painless. After care instructions were great!
